Usually, surgery is the standard line of treatment for any tumour. But there would be instances wherein surgery would not be possible for certain patients due to age, co—morbidities or the patient may be immunocompromised. Also in certain patients there would be recurrent tumours or residual tumours.
CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery is an ideal option for cancer treatment during the times when a tumour cannot be operated because it’s too close to critical structures or tumour may only be partially excised.
The second instance would be recurrent tumours post-surgery.
Some of the other cases that require post-surgery using CyberKnife are:
Trigeminal neuralgia post micro vascular decompression
Note: Outcomes of CyberKnife treatment for any cancer would vary from patient to patient and also on a case to case basis.
